Hi! I'm Mathias Rios. I live in NYC. I'm 17. I like cars (as many of you, I assume, do). I turn 18 on the 26th of this month (Class-D-day for me!). I have been driving in one capacity or another since the age of 15 with my dad teaching me in what became my DD, my ML320. I "inherited" it after it had been sitting for 2-3 years in a garage unused because of many gremlins that I later on fixed by myself. It is now at 211,o00 miles without any major issues apart from a stuck P0410 code on the computer. I used to be a "model" and "actor" but I wasn't very good at either so I don't really do that now and dedicate most of my time to fixing electronics and my cars. I started wrenching on my own car once I realized how expensive it would be to have someone else install parts on my ML. Since then the "mod bug" has bitten me and I've done countless little mods on my car. It is a perpetual work in progress as you can probably tell, but I love it dearly and wouldn't have any other car as my DD.
Some notable car related things I have done with myself in the past are
-I went to Germany this past June with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and drove the Nurburgring (in a mietwagen lololol) and watched the 24 Heures du Mans (camped out in our rental) and saw DTM.
-I installed an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which makes it much, much better overall.
-I bought a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! project car for lulz and to bother Aaron Brown, who a week earlier had got a 944.

Hmm.. I guess that's it. I really have to write some essays now so I'm done for now. You can find me burning down the town of Middlemarch.

Have you had any transmission issues with your ML? A friend of mine with a 1998-99 ML320 (grey bumpers and all) has been having ongoing issues with his.

No transmission issues. Occasionally a harsh downshift, but for a trans with 211k miles on it, it seems pretty good to me. Changed the fluid a while ago, I think it's due for another.
What issues does he have? Mine is a 99 I just plasti dipped the bumpers black. It had them grey before. A fluid/filter flush on the trans can work wonders on it, and if not, the valve body may have gone bad, and replacing that is a DIY in itself. A used trans is in the neighborhood of 600 bucks I believe so even if the trans is shot I would look into a replacement. How many miles does he have?

It's almost about 200k on that one. He had the transmission rebuilt during the summer and it failed on him last week so it's in the shop again. It does have its harsh downshifts when I was driving it a couple weeks ago. Personally, I think he's being a bit too hard on the trans with his throttle application and I don't think he's waiting long enough for it to warm up.
